Lake Michigan Fishing Report 2026

Lake Michigan Fishing Report: An Incredible Start to the 2026 Season

If you’ve been following our reports and photos, you already know one thing—the fishing has been outstanding.

The 2026 season aboard Storm Force Sportfishing is off to one of the strongest starts we’ve seen in years. We launch daily from North Point Marina in Winthrop Harbor, Illinois. Salmon and trout fishing has been consistently productive. Our customers have enjoyed plenty of opportunities to experience Lake Michigan’s world-class fishery.

Coho Salmon Action Has Been Outstanding

Spring and early summer are prime time for Coho salmon. This year has been no exception. Many of our trips have produced steady action throughout the morning. Aggressive fish and multiple hookups have kept anglers busy.

The Coho bite has been exciting for everyone. Experienced anglers have filled coolers, while families have enjoyed unforgettable first charter experiences.

King Salmon Are Starting to Show

As the season progresses, we’re seeing more Chinook salmon, also known as King salmon. These fish are famous for their power, long runs, and drag-screaming fights.

For many anglers, landing a mature Lake Michigan King salmon is the ultimate Great Lakes fishing experience. We’re excited to see what the coming weeks will bring.

Trout Fishing Has Added Consistent Action

Lake trout and steelhead have also contributed to excellent catch rates this season. Multiple species give us flexibility and help keep rods firing throughout the trip.

Fishing from North Point Marina offers another advantage. We have quick access to deep water and productive offshore structure. That means more time fishing and less time running.

Why Winthrop Harbor Continues to Produce

Winthrop Harbor sits between Chicago and Milwaukee. It has long been recognized as one of Lake Michigan’s top ports for salmon and trout fishing.

Strong forage, favorable water conditions, and seasonal fish movements create excellent opportunities throughout the season.

Each year, anglers travel from Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and beyond to fish out of North Point Marina.

Thank You to Our Customers

We want to thank everyone who has fished with us this season. Helping anglers land memorable fish is one of the most rewarding parts of this business.

We’ve welcomed returning customers, first-time Lake Michigan anglers, families, corporate groups, and visitors from across the Midwest. We appreciate every one of you for choosing Storm Force Sportfishing.

Looking Ahead

The season is far from over. Some of the best fishing of the year is still ahead.

As water temperatures change and summer progresses, we expect excellent opportunities for King salmon, Coho salmon, lake trout, and steelhead.

If you’re thinking about booking a Lake Michigan fishing charter, now is the time to reserve your date. Prime weekends and peak fishing periods fill quickly.

We look forward to seeing you aboard Storm Force. We can’t wait to help you create memories that last a lifetime.
